YOUTH TENNIS COACH JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB INFORMATION

  • Classification: Part-time I hourly
  • Pay Range: Pay is determined on an annual basis by the Board of Park Commissioners
  • Supervisor: Works under the general and detailed supervision of the Head Tennis Professional and the Facility Specialist

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for the instruction of Bismarck Parks and Recreation District (BPRD) youth tennis programs following the policies and procedures set forth by the Bismarck Parks and Recreation District.

JOB DUTIES AND TASKS

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work to be performed by the individual within this classification. Essential Functions

  • Lead and participate in drills, games, and strategy to enhance the knowledge of the youth participants.
  • Keep youth participants involved and engaged in lessons, drills, and games.
  • Plan weekly lessons based on the material/training provided.
  • Communicate with the CRFC Facility Specialist in regard to scheduling and safety/participant concerns.
  • Communicate with the BPRD Head Tennis Professional in regard to lessons, drills, on-court development, etc.
  • Assist students in developing and improving various tennis skills.
  • Assess students’ tennis skills to determine areas in need of improvement.
  • Arrive at scheduled time and be ready to work. Absences must receive prior approval by the Head Tennis Coach and/or Facility Specialist.
  • Follow all BPRD safety policies and procedures outlined in the Risk Management Handbook.
  • Complete all necessary payroll forms and utilize the electronic time and attendance timekeeping system.
  • Understand and follow the standard operating procedures outlined in the employee manual.
  • Understand and follow the Human Resource Policy and Procedure Handbook items related to this position.
  • Represent BPRD in a professional and positive manner. BPRD issues clothing and equipment to employees and the issued items are to be used in an appropriate manner, not inconsistent with the image BPRD wishes to convey to the public.

Other Duties and Tasks

  • Establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with facility staff, groups, associations, agencies and individuals.
  • Inform supervisor(s) prior to running out of supplies.
  • Responsible for personal neatness and attire; communicating repair needs and job site neatness.
  • Assist with setting up and tear down for facility programs and events as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of basic tennis rules and strokes.
  • Ability to create age-appropriate tennis lesson plans with the provided online and written instruction materials and the read, understand and interpret USTA tennis instruction manuals.
  • Ability to lift and carry objects up to 30 pounds alone or heavier lifting with other employees.
  • Ability to read, understand and interpret reports, manuals and to comprehend oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing, prepare written reports, and report problems and repairs to the proper person.
  • Must have a flexible schedule as the position will be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • must be able to work in all weather conditions as work is primarily indoors during the fall and winter and outdoors and indoors during the summer.
  • Ability to work varied hours including early mornings (summer only) and evenings.
  • Work is subject to frequent interruptions.
  • Maintain a fitness level acceptable to perform the skills required of the position.
  • Must be able to stand for 2-4 hours at one time.
