PERSONAL TRAINER JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB INFORMATION

  • Classification: Recreation Class Instructor-Hourly
  • Pay Range: Pay is determined on an annual basis by the Board of Park Commissioners
  • Supervisor: Works under the general and detailed supervision of the Fitness/Wellness Specialist

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for providing health and fitness related instruction and programming at the BSC AWC and CRFC following the policies and procedures set forth by the Bismarck Parks and Recreation District (BPRD) for the effective operation of such programs.

JOB DUTIES AND TASKS

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work to be performed by the individual within this classification. They are not to be considered an exhaustive or all-inclusive listing of the position’s duties and tasks, as they may change or be adjusted, as situations require.

Essential Functions

  • Plan and implement specialty classes and programs (i.e. bootcamps).
  • Communicate with clients and supervisor.
  • Schedule client appointments.
  • Conduct fitness assessments.
  • Develop goals with clients, follow-up/evaluate progress, and adjust as needed.
  • Design and demonstrate personalized exercise programs for clients.
  • Track client sessions
  • Instruct and supervise clientele in the correct use of fitness equipment and programs.
  • Maintain records and reports relating to fitness programs at CRFC and the BSC AWC and forward to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Assist in the maintenance, upkeep, and cleaning of the fitness area and exercise equipment.
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds alone or heavier lifting with assistance.
  • Arrive at scheduled time and be ready to work. Absences must receive prior approval by the Fitness/Wellness Specialist.
  • Follow BPRD safety policies and procedures outlined in the Risk Management Handbook.
  • Complete all necessary payroll forms and utilize the electronic time and attendance timekeeping system.
  • Understand and follow the standard operating procedures outlined in the employee manual.
  • Understand and follow the Human Resource Policy and Procedure Handbook items related to this position.
  • Represent BPRD in a professional and positive manner. BPRD issues clothing and equipment to employees and the issued items are to be used in an appropriate manner, not inconsistent with the image BPRD wishes to convey to the public.

Other Duties and Tasks

  • Establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with facility staff, groups, associations, agencies and individuals.
  • Inform supervisor(s) prior to running out of supplies.
  • Responsible for personal neatness and attire; communicating repair needs and job site neatness.
  • Assist with setting up and tear down for facility programs and events as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

  • Must be a Certified Personal Trainer through one of the following accredited organizations: ACSM, NASM, ACE, NASC, NETA.
  • Ability to lift and carry objects up to 30 pounds alone or heavier lifting with other employees.
  • Ability to read, understand and interpret labels on cleaning products, reports, manuals and to comprehend oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing, prepare written reports, and report problems and repairs to the proper person.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work may include early mornings, days, and evenings as well as weekends and holidays.
  • Public contact is frequent.
  • Work is primarily indoors, but must be able to work in all weather conditions.
  • Must maintain a fitness level acceptable to perform the skills required of the position.
  • Must be able to stand for 2-4 hours at one time.
